While the interwebs were abuzz over the latest H&M ad featuring David Beckham showing off his assets, some Debbie Downer took it upon themselves to reveal something shocking.
Apparently, according to the Today Show, H&M used a body double for some parts of the video shoot. Then H&M actually confirmed it:
"David was very involved in the advert, including doing most of the stunts. Due to his tight schedule, a body double was used in smaller parts of the video."
Is that PR-speak for "his butt isn't tight enough?" Is Beckham's body not perfect enough for H&M? I know body doubles are used in movies all the time, but this man is a professional athlete. If even HIS body isn't cutting it for H&M in "smaller parts" of the video, what hope do the rest of us have?
Victoria's Secret does the same thing, and maybe it is just a reality we need to expect. In advertising, we always see products in their best case scenario, which is probably why H&M chose to use Beckham to hock their underwear to begin with.
It's not surprising that H&M would want to use the best male body they could, but when even Beckham isn't good enough, it makes me worry.
