You've just settled in to watch hours and hours of NCAA tournament coverage on CBS. Instead, you're met with Alan Kalter, the man famous for being the announcer on the David Letterman show, and he's here to talk to you about your colon. Kalter wants you to get a colonoscopy. In fact, he's having one right now.
The ad comes from a line of spots CBS has run over the years titled "CBS Cares", a series where the network offers advice on how viewers can have a healthy, happy life. The CBS cares concept is a perfectly fine one and it certainly has raised some solid points over the years, from charitable efforts to depression.
However, they could have tackled this subject a bit more delicately. Why is Kalter grinning so much while he's supposedly having a colonoscopy? Yeesh. They should have just stuck with the spot Kalter did a couple years back on the same topic. It's still strange, but way, way less disturbing.
