Burger King has sent out a challenge to McDonald’s – they want to team up with their competitor and create the McWhopper in the name of peace.
For Peace Day, held September 21st to honor world peace, the company has asked McDonald’s to work with Burger King in order to influence change. BK wants to leverage its size (and McDonald’s) to raise awareness for Peace Day, and make the World a better place. They even got Jeremy Gilley, creator of the non-profit organization Peace One Day to advocate for the burger, and why not? Creating the ungodly burger concoction would bring huge awareness to the peace campaign, as agreements such as this one are unheard of.
Burger King says they’ll make one pop-up location for one day only between their HQ and McDonald’s HQ and have co-branded uniforms and packaging – all in hopes of ‘feeding the discussion.’ Watch the ad for yourself.

McDonald’s isn’t into the proposal at all, as they released this somewhat snotty message from their Facebook page today rejecting the offer.
Dear Burger King,
Inspiration for a good cause… great idea.
We love the intention but think our two brands could do something bigger to make a difference.
We commit to raise awareness worldwide, perhaps you’ll join us in a meaningful global effort?
And every day, let’s acknowledge that between us there is simply a friendly business competition and certainly not the unequaled circumstances of the real pain and suffering of war.
We’ll be in touch.
-Steve, McDonald’s CEO
P.S. A simple phone call will do next time.
Burger King certainly put them on the spot, but the P.S. at the end of the message just reiterates that Brand >>>>>> everything else. There’s a real opportunity to have a big discussion about peace, and McDonald’s has no interest in partnering up with one their biggest competitors to do so.
Oh well, one day we can hope for a McWhopper, and peace too I guess.
