Footlocker and Pacquiao get meta

It’s really happening! Six years in the making Pacquiao and Mayweather are finally fighting. Pacquiao might be too old to win, but he can still cash in on that sweet, sweet guaranteed fight payout of $60 million.

So why exactly is he in a a footlocker ad? He’s wondering the same thing.

The ad pokes fun at the wishy washy nature of Mayweather’s decision to fight Pacquiao. Pacquiao has been willing to fight for a while now and is pretty hilarious when he’s hopping up and down in celebration. The best part about the spot is that Pacquiao is trapped within the ad. Is the fight real? Was he actually being told it’s real or is it just a footlocker commercial. This solidifies what we all know – we should be rooting for Pacquiao. He’s the underdog, he’s funny, he’s been wanting to get this fight to happen. He also doesn’t hang out with Bieber so he’s got that going for him. The only issue I have with the ad is that Foot Locker is just the footnote, they don’t leave their brand on the commercial well. I can’t imagine how much it would cost to book Pacquiao as your ad man so they should do a better job of branding themselves instead of him.

Ad Grade: B+
